The Message Is In the Hook

Why We Started "It’s In the Hook"

If you’ve ever had a song get stuck in your head—just one lyric or one catchy phrase playing on repeat—you know the power of a hook. But what if that hook carried more than melody? What if it carried truth?

Welcome to “It’s In the Hook”—a platform where music meets meaning.

We started this space with one simple but powerful belief: music is the door to uncovering history. Songs carry stories. Hooks carry messages. And when those messages reflect real experiences, untold histories, and cultural truths, they do more than entertain—they educate, empower, and connect.

Our Why

Too often, history is told from a narrow lens. But across cultures and generations, music has always been a way to reclaim narratives and pass down truth. Whether it's the resistance of spirituals, the resilience in hip-hop, or the reflections in folk ballads, the hook has always been more than a musical phrase—it’s been a message for the people.

“It’s In the Hook” was born out of a desire to share those messages. Through original songs, lyric videos, instructional content, and interviews, we aim to amplify voices, explore history, and inspire others to look deeper into the lyrics and sounds around them.

Who It's For

Educators. Artists. Students. Truth-seekers. Anyone who believes that learning doesn’t always happen in textbooks and that rhythm can reveal what’s been erased or forgotten.

This isn’t just a channel or a site. It’s a movement—a journey. And if you’ve found your way here, you're part of it.

Watch Our Latest Video: Six Triple 8

Our newest lyric video, “Six Triple 8,” tells the powerful story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the only majority Black, all-women battalion to serve overseas in World War II. These trailblazers processed millions of pieces of backlogged mail under grueling conditions, ensuring soldiers could stay connected with their loved ones.

Through music, we honor their legacy and bring their story into classrooms, conversations, and hearts.

Learn the story. Sing the truth. Because the message is always “in the hook”.
